Day Seven - November 24, 2017

Today is our last full day here in Thomazeau.  We started our day like most of the week in helping the construction team on the large project of building the water tower.  Passing lots of buckets of concrete!  We enjoyed the day with all of our new friends.  Some of the Haitian workers began to tease Kyle right along with the rest of us.  It was awesome to see them smile and have fun and to feel comfortable enough to join in!  After a week of working side by side we have become friends and we are family.  Even though there may not have been a lot of words shared due to the language barrier, there was a lot of sweat and hard work!

The kids got out of school early, so after we wrapped up with construction work we were able to spend the rest of the day with them.  I think they knew our time was coming to an end as several of them were a little extra clingy.  We helped them with homework (the best we could).  We made bracelets.  We just held them.  We played soccer and basketball and pushed them in the swings.  Just gave them what they desire most, love and time.  Kyle was able to spend some more time play guitar with one of the staff.

Lexi was able to help teach English to the children in the afternoon.  She did a great job and what she taught them stuck with them!  These kids are so eager to learn!

As the day was coming to a close several of us had inquired about this mountain range in the distance.  It appeared so close!  So before dinner and before it got dark a team of us set out on a hike.  It was a very long hike and the terrain was very rough.  I only made it half way, maybe a little more, and stopped at a flat spot.  I was able to spend some time with some children that lived around that area.  I got to witness God's beauty in so many ways, in the children, in the scenery and the views as the sun began to set.  Roy and Tera stayed behind with me.  Rob, Karen, Alex, Kyle, our interpreters Johnnie Laine and Roolite and two young boys from the area continued on.  They probably made it at least 3/4 the way up the mountain.  They were so high up!!!!  What a long, tough, exhausting and amazing journey that was.  The perfect way to end our trip.
